On September 11th 2001, the world was shooked by the sight of two planes crashing into the New York Twin Towers. everyone hopes of a better future came crashing down. yet in the midst of that time of darkness, something was rising from the ashes. and there, at Ground Zero, there she stands.
the songs i am going to upload is written by my favourite singer, Michael W Smith. "There she stands". just a week after that fateful day, MWS met with the president at Oval Offive, where President Bush urged him to compose a song about the events that shook the country. the result of that conversation was "There she stands".
Many people are tempted to think of 9/11 as a tragedy, a disaster, as a "superpower brought to its knees" and so on. But the beauty of this song, is that it sees hope in 9/11; it sees 9/11 as the strengthening of a country. One of the hijacked planes crashed in Pennsylvania when the terrorists were jumped by the passengers. They didn't sit down quietly and went for the plane to crash into some other building. before they rushed down the long aisle with a trolley as a battering ram, Todd Beamer turned away from the phone he was on and said to someone,"Are you ready? Let's roll."
more than 2000 people died in the attacks. what kind of strengthening is this, you might ask. well, after the attacks, it was as if the entire country looked into a mirror and saw their better selves. they were reminded that they are citizens, with obligations to each other, to their country and to history. they began to think less of the goods they can accumulate and more about the good they can do. for too long their culture has said, " If it feels good, do it." Now America is embracing a new ethic and a new creed we too should embrace, the creed of: "Let's Roll."
I now present you the video "There she stands". Lest we ever forget 9/11.
